New Acropolis Toronto

About Us

New Acropolis is an international non-profit cultural association that is present in nearly 60 countries worldwide. New Acropolis began in 1957 in Argentina, with the aim to strengthen human values through volunteering, studying and self-transformation. New Acropolis operates independent of all political, religious or financial interests. It encourages local initiatives which promote civic responsibility and voluntary service to the community.

Philosophy

New Acropolis approaches philosophy in the "classical tradition". We approach philosophy as "the love of wisdom", as something practical and active, not merely intellectual or contemplative, so we can learn from our everyday life and inspire our life with the great philosophical teachings. To enable everyone to develop his/her own potential in the most effective possible way, the syllabus of this School of Philosophy covers the major systems of thought of both East and West, together with their proposals for putting the philosophical concepts into practice in our own life. It promotes the application of the essential human values and timeless qualities which have been at the heart of all civilizations. This Active Philosophy leads to the development of greater self-control, peace of mind and increased ability to act in accordance with our evolving understanding of the harmony of the world. It combines feeling, thought and action. It teaches people to think for themselves and to reach decisions freely. The practice of philosophy embraces the whole spectrum of existence and helps the individual to find, by himself, a purpose in life.

Volunteering

New Acropolis is operated entirely by volunteers. Internationally, New Acropolis is active in diverse fields, such as social, cultural, artistic, environmental, health, sports, education, business, humanitarian, and emergency relief. Our members consist of people of all ages, ethnic origins and social backgrounds. Each member freely adapts his/her participation in the association and its activities according to personal, family and professional circumstances. Volunteering is more than just sharing the time you can spare. New Acropolis unites men and women of good will to act together for the common good, beyond private interests. It is only through our own real life experiences that we can evolve profoundly and become who we authentically are. Members of New Acropolis take an active role, share with others and creating groups of men and women which would be living forces at the service of the community and the surrounding world.
