Chinese calligraphy is an art and a discipline that we can apply in all facets of life. Starting with the basics, you will learn how to write in Chinese, appreciate the beauty of calligraphy, discover the wisdom contained in the practice, and experience the benefits of this inner training.

Level 1 Course Outline:
Week 1: Introduction - Know Yourself and Your Tools
Discover the beauty of the art and learn the tools of Chinese Calligraphy.
Discover the Importance of knowing the tools and the person mastering them.
Week 2: Learn to Overcome Obstacles
Practice writing some Chinese characters, discover obstacles, inner and outer, that hinder our mastery of the art, and learn to overcome them.
Week 3: The Basics and the Universe
Everything starts with the basics. It is simpler than you think - learn the basic strokes of Chinese writing.
Everything is more profound if you go deeper. What can we learn from the qualities of the strokes?
Week 4: Power of the Mind
Discover your inner senses, and develop the power of the mind through concentration.
Week 5: Wisdom of the Heart
Learn the different types of Chinese Characters e.g. pictographs and ideographs.
Learn the wisdom contained in symbols and develop the intuition of the heart.
Week 6: Fly with Virtues
A calligraphy practitioner practices virtues, which is the basis of all training.
Learn to write some virtues in Chinese and meditate on their meaning.
Week 7: Beauty and Harmony
Learn the principles of composing a Chinese character to express beauty and harmony.
Practice writing in lines, and the qualities needed to take others into consideration.
Week 8: Cycles of Learning
How do we learn and grow our practice?
Discover the teachings and qualities that help us learn from challenges.
Instructor: Sui-Yung Tung
Sui-Yung Tung was first introduced to Chinese Calligraphy in Hong Kong as a young student. Fascinated by the symbolism and beauty of Chinese characters, she continues her study and practice of Chinese calligraphy in Canada. With her philosophical training at New Acropolis, she is able to explore further the wisdom contained in the art of Chinese Calligraphy. It is her desire to share the timeless teachings of this ancient art with people interested in beauty and harmony, and in the development of human values.
